The Hunt for the Heinkel He 177
In August 1944 A German Heinkel He 177 'Griffon' bomber taking past in a night-time raid known as 'Operation Steinbock' was shot down over the Essex countryside. In August 2011 a team of Aviation Archaeologists and metal detectorists went in search of the crash site. Although this video was shot in 2011 the files were lost on a separate hard drive and were only recently re-discovered. (Apologies for some of the sound quality during the video. It was filmed using only basic video equipment on what became a very windy day).
