"Mandarin (普通话 / 汉语 / 国语 / 华语)
Mandarin is a variety of Chinese spoken mainly in China, Taiwan, and Singapore by just over 1 billion people (in 2013). It is the main language of government, the media and education in China and Taiwan, and one of the four official languages in Singapore. Mandarin is also spoken in Malaysia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, Russia, the USA, Vietnam, Laos, the UK and Mauritius.

Cantonese (廣東話 / 粵語) Cantonese (gwóngdùngwá/yuhtyúh)
Cantonese is spoken by about 72 million people, mainly in the south east of China, particularly in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan. It is also spoken in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines and among Overseas Chinese communities in many other countries.

Hokkien (福建話; pinyin: Fújiànhuà; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Hok-kiàn-oē) or Minnan Proper (閩南語/閩南話),
Hokkien is a Southern Min Chinese dialect group originating from the Fujian Province in Southeastern China and Taiwan, and spoken widely there and by the Chinese diaspora in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia, and by other overseas Chinese all over the world. It is the mainstream form of Southern Min.

Shanghainese (上海闲话 / Zanhe-ëwo)
Shanghainese is a dialect of Wu spoken by about 14 million people in Shanghai. There are also many Shanghainese speakers in Hong Kong. There is no standard written form of Shanghainese and it rarely appears in writing. Though the language is the everyday spoken language of Shanghai, it isn't used in education and is only occasionally heard on local radio stations.

Hakka (客家话 [客家話])
Hakka is a variety of Chinese spoken in south eastern China, parts of Taiwan and in the New Territories of Hong Kong. There are also significant communities of Hakka speakers in such countries as the USA, French Guiana, Mauritius and the UK. The total number of Hakka speakers is roughly 40 million. The name of the language, 客家话 [客家話] - (hak7ga1wa3 or kèjiāhuà in Mandarin) means 'guest language'.

Notice: The flag I used for Shanghainese and Hakka are not official. Those are fanmade designs!
