Lori Tharps, a self-proclaimed Diversity DIVA is the author of Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America. She along with co-author Ayana Byrd wrote this book to serve as a tool for White Americans to understand the powerful history of Black hair and examine mainstream society’s misrepresentation and misunderstanding of it.

I frequently wear my hair in braids – a hairstyle that is inspired by and done by Black women. Over the past few months while educating myself and digging deeper into the BLM movement, I felt a responsibility to hold this open and honest conversation.
