The Modernaires "Johnny Get Your Girl" / "Busy Doing Nothing" 1949 Columbia 7" 33 1/3 Lp Single

In 1948, Columbia Records debuted an improved 33 1/3 format they called the "Lp." In 1949, RCA introduced the '45'. A very short format war ensued in which RCA pushed the 7" '45' single, and Columbia pushed a 7" "Lp" single. By late-'49, Columbia and RCA had agreed to a format standard, and the "Lp" became the choice for albums, and the '45' became the standard for "singles."

A lot of people have never seen one of these '48 7" "Lp" singles, so... here's one from my collection!
They are as thick as a 78rpm record of the period... about twice as thick as a vinyl '45' single.
