"at home: Artists in Conversation"
Join us for lively and inspiring conversations with some of today’s most notable artists. "at home: Artists in Conversation" brings together curators and artists to discuss various artistic practices and insights into their work. This program was recorded on September 4, 2020, at 12 pm ET.
About Eileen Hogan
Preparing for her exhibition at the Center in 2019, Hogan noticed how certain themes had recurred throughout her career. This exhibition, "Eileen Hogan: Personal Geographies," centered on gardens and portraiture. Gardens were represented by the "Four Squares" series (paintings of four London private squares), work created during her residency at London’s Garden Museum, and the series of paintings of the Scottish poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay and his garden, Little Sparta. Portraiture has entered Hogan’s career intensively since 1998, and she has pioneered an unusual approach, often working with an oral historian making a life history recording with her sitter while painting, allowing her to witness her subject's face registering a range of emotions. Hogan exhibits internationally and currently shows with Browse & Darby, London. Her work is in private and public collections, including the Imperial War Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, and at the Center.
This program is presented through the generosity of the Terry F. Green 1969 Fund for British Art and Culture.
