70cm Handheld Cubical Quad Amateur Radio Antenna with Baofeng UV-5R
This is my response to the challenge set by SurvivalTech Nord in his video: GUERRILLA QUAD UHF ANTENNA BUILD https://youtu.be/CR8ap-h1GY4?list=PLKMrdrsNkFA7ArZpexHgV8Dxj-Ro4P1Qt , as part of his Budget Survival Comms series https://goo.gl/BR4b2q. I am pleased to say I was one of the winners and I hope I don't disappoint anyone with my effort here.
I chose a 70cm cubicle quad for two reasons:-
1. Because I wanted to see if I could hit a local repeater, as in the event of some disaster or other, I'd hope this would be a useful communications hub.
2. It would simply be smaller, especially for my first project.
I was honestly extremely pleased (and surprised) to find it worked first time. I can hit my local repeater approximately 13 miles away now and I hope to test it a greater range in a few days.
I know there's things I'm bound to have done wrong, could have done better or probably not even considered, but this is my first try. Please feel free to add any constructive comments you'd like, which might help both myself and all those that would also like to try making their own antennas.
I hope this video is useful to others. Next time I'll try and hold the thing still and stop wave it around so much, but I'm new to this movie making business and I'm learning.
Stay safe... and legal :-)
