Mauna Kea Observatories

This video is a test of YouTube's ability to display a 360x180 spherical panorama. Set the YouTube resolution to the maximum setting (2160s), then click and drag to pan around. Hold the keyboard shift and zoom in and out with the mouse wheel. You can pause the video playback and still pan around in the scene.

This scene was taken in 2014 near the top of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The orange beam is a laser reference being used by one of the Keck observatories to compensate for atmospheric distortions. The area being imaged by the observatory is the region around the black hole at the center of our galaxy. While the black hole itself isn't visible, the Keck telescopes have been tracking the motions of stars orbiting the black hole.
