Turning a $20 Grocery Store Cake into a Wedding Cake! | Grocery Store Cake Challenge

In this tutorial, I am taking on the Grocery Store Cake Challenge by turning a $20 Grocery Store Cake into a Wedding Cake!! I used 2 quarter sheet cakes to achieve a double tiered, DIY Wedding Cake. I highly recommend icing with American Buttercream to make the whole crumb coat and overall frosting process easier, along with the upside-down technique for sharp buttercream edges. The elegant cake makeover /transformation is tied together with fresh flowers and gold leaf for the end result

American Buttercream Recipe
I made two batches (double the recipe) to ensure I had enough frosting. This is the BEST Crusting Buttercream to Ice your Cake with , and sets perfectly in the freezer. Allows you to handle/tier the cake without worrying about smudges

-2 sticks room temp Butter
-227 g shortening (High Ratio or Crisco)
-1 tbsp clear Vanilla
2 lb bag Confectioners Sugar
-2 tbsp water or milk
-Pinch of salt

You can watch the tutorial of how to make this frosting in this my other video here if you need (: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IFtyY3dGQs

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
* Look for deals at your local Grocery Store Bakery! I found mine for $10.49 each , they were the Manager's Special from Stop & Shop (check Walmart, Shopright, Costco, Kroger etc.)
* Keep grocery store cakes refrigerated (preferably overnight) before removing your frosting
* After removing frosting, Store cakes in freezer for 20-30 mins prior to cutting layers.
* Make circle templates for the size layers you want - mine were 7" and 5". I cut cardboard circle and stapled parchment paper over it to prevent sticking
* Fill with your favorite filling! I used Raspberry
*After Crumb Coating, freeze for 30 Mins
*Smooth frosting by removing excess frosting with Icing Smoother, Offset Spatula, or Bench scraper. Wipe clean and dip in hot Water for a seamless finish
*Use Bubble Tea Straws to Tier your cakes
*Wrap your flowers in floral tape so they are food safe (:
