Surviving TX Blackout Polar Vortex w/Newborn Puppies!

Hello! We are alive and well! I have gotten hundreds of concerned emails and am so humbled by all the love and prayers coming our way. As usual, dog people are the best people. Much love to everyone right back! XOXO

The children, dogs and I are doing really well, all things considered. We snuggled together in an EPIC blanket fort in my living-room. We bundled everyone (dogs included) up and rode out the week without power and water but not without loads of family time! So not a total loss.

We had 7 beautiful new cockapoo babies born just before this happened, and they stayed warm and safe during everything. Mama did beautifully, kept her puppies snug and warm, and I think all the furry bodies in my house kept the human bodies quite warm. So if ever there is a good argument for owning multiple dogs, this is it! Ha!

Who needs a fur coat when you can just have a couple of dogs sitting in your lap?

Let's see, I had myself, 6 children, 7 newborn puppies, 12 adult dogs and 2 teenager dogs all cuddled into one blanket fort encampment. Granted, our dogs are quite small. Once we got ourselves all situated, the temperature in our little area never dropped below 60 degrees! We really had quite a toasty encampment!

Meanwhile, in other parts of the house (the bathroom, the kitchen and all the bedrooms), they didn't fare so well. Our shower exploded and had to be repaired (fortunately we were able to go through the wall behind the shower instead of destroying the stone tile in the shower itself!). The kitchen was so cold when I wasn't baking anything that you could see your breath!!

2021 has started with a real BANG.

I just want to go back into my blanket fort with the dogs and children. Haha! I'm already fed up with the 20's. You know, a blanket fort with a bunch of sweet dogs and wonderful, well-behaved children really is a lot of fun. Reading some books aloud and getting practice creating shadow puppets isn't the worst way to spend your time.
