Salvage Lancaster LM508 at Werkendam / Netherlands

Salvage of Lancaster LM508 SR-P at Werkendam / Netherlands, during October 2014.

LM508 has been downed June 22nd, 1944 by a german nightfighter (JU-88) on it's way back home, after a bombraid on Wesseling/Germany.

Lancaster LM508 SR-P belonged 101st Sqn of the RAF / Bomber Command. On board 8 crewmembers:

Pilot Officer G. Hingley, Sergeant S.D. Rogerson, Flying Officer T.W. Ball, Sergeant L.V.H. Horrigan, Sergeant F. Sheard and Sergeant J. Casgoigne and were held later on as a POW, but survived WOII.

Severe wounded Flight Sergeant Thomas Handley Duff, has been pushed out of the plane by chute, but did not survive. Thomas has been burried on the local cemetery / Werkendam.

Sergeant J.E. Keogh was already been killed on its way for a bombraid on Wesseling/Germany. His remains were not found after the crash at Werkendam.

But now, almost for sure and 70 years after the crash, his remains are found October 17th 2014 in the wreckages of the downed Lancaster. Published in the local newspaper and in the internet:

One more 7 days to go to salvage the last remains of this Lancaster.

Hereafter, the crashsite will be closed as constructions will be started later on into a businesspark.

As far as I know now, the municipality of Werkendam intends to raise a monument to commemorate the crew of the Lancaster LM508.

They may rest in peace.
