Koh Samui Thailand. Samui Elephant Sanctuary review with Geoff Carter

Koh Samui Thailand has its first Elephant Sanctuary on the island. Geoff Carter visits Samui Elephant Sanctuary to find out more about the Elephant rescue programme. Thailand has many working elephants, the ones you have just seen have been rescued and will never work again. Sadly they can never be released back into the wild, as they were born in captivity, but they will have the best care possible at the sanctuary.

ALL PRICES AND INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEBSITE BELOW. I will personally not be answering any information questions as I will be away from pc whilst traveling. thank you.

Official Infor mation to follow.

We are excited to bring Samui Elephant Sanctuary (SES), the first elephant sanctuary of it's kind, to Koh Samui in Southern Thailand.

Our concept of elephant care and welfare is inspired and supported by Lek Chailert, world renowned elephant conservationist, the founder of Save Elephant Foundation and world famous Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. Lek is at the forefront of ethical elephant tourism both in Thailand and throughout Asia, which is seeing a growing demand for elephant camps to transition from a trekking to sanctuary model under the Save Elephant Foundation's 'Saddle Off' program.

We offer tours that educate about the importance of these phenomenal, majestic giants, with a unique opportunity to feed, walk with, and observe our elephants as they forage, socialize, and play in their fabulous purpose built pool.

The elephants in our care have previously endured a hard life working long hours for the tourism entertainment or logging industries; a striking contrast to the happy and peaceful lives they are now living, with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Lek was born in a small hill tribe village of Baan Lao, two hours north of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Her grandfather was a tradition healer, known as a shaman and he not only helped the people in his community but sometimes the villagers would take a sick injured animal to him for healing. Lek's grandfather often allowed her to participate in his work healing animals and Lek realised that all animals strive to live well and she became determined to spend her life saving animals. With a love and respect for her country’s national symbol, and the knowledge that they were becoming endangered, Lek began advocating for the rights and welfare of the Asian elephants in Thailand founding Elephant Nature Park and Save Elephant Foundation to protect elephants.

Today, Lek continues to be at the forefront of elephant and other animal rights causes, raising international awareness and encouraging other countries in the region to follow her lead, as well as helping to provide sustainable alternatives for local villages. Most days, she can be found at Elephant Nature Park spending time with her rescued herd.
