The biggest mistake Muslims make when learning Arabic is studying classical grammar books written for Arabs. Those books were never designed for non native speakers. When they bring examples the Arab already understands the context but you do not. You go through an entire grammar book and think you have studied Arabic but all you have done is learned concepts about Arabic without actually acquiring the language. You never spoke it, never listened to it, never wrote in it. That is like reading a book about swimming and thinking you can swim. Real language acquisition requires all four skills, listening, reading, speaking and writing. Memorizing grammar points from a classical text and stopping there is an outdated method that was never meant to carry you for a lifetime. The techniques need to evolve just like everything else.
