Annette Hanshaw - Rare Interviews - 1984 Radio Show

Here is a radio broadcast that pays tribute to Annette Hanshaw, with commentary from Annette herself talking about her life and career. It was broadcast over CBC-FM on March 3rd, 1984. I don't know the name of the presenter, but in addition to Annette, you will also hear the voices of Brian Rust, Chris Ellis, John Hammond, Bill Simon, Jack O'Brien and Lanny Ross. This is the complete programme - other than this upload, there is only a very short clip of the programme on YouTube.

I need to highlight an error in the commentary that relates to Annette Hanshaw's date of birth. It wasn't 1910, as stated by the presenter; this is not his fault, as 1910 was thought to be correct at the time. In fact, she was born on October 18th, 1901, making her 24 when she made her first commercial recording, "Six Feet Of Papa" (released on Pathe 32211).

Also, the second illustration in the video (the first shows Annette with Brian Rust) comes from a radio magazine of the early 1930s and states that she couldn't read a note of music. The was not the case - in fact, even before she started recording she played from sheet music to demonstrate new songs for customers in the shop her father owned in Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York.

Is there a more beautiful vocal version of "Body And Soul" than Annette's?
