When I was a sophomore in college my boyfriend of nearly 3 years broke up with me and began dating one of my sorority sisters. I was heartbroken and of course furious. I felt so betrayed by both of them. To make matters even worse, there was a big formal coming up that my sorority was hosting. I knew my ex-boyfriend was going to be in attendance with his new girlfriend which was going to be incredibly embarrassing and painful to watch. I didn’t have a choice not to go or even fake sickness, everyone in my sorority was expected to attend. The formal was in a couple of weeks and I had absolutely nobody to go with. I knew I couldn’t show up alone, it would be just too humiliating.

I was complaining to my friends about the situation and they encouraged me to try out the app Tinder. They told me that lots of guys from our school were on it and it could be an easy way to find a date while in a pinch. I had never liked the idea of Tinder. To me it felt like the people on the app were almost desperate. But in this case, I felt like I had no other choice. With my friends help, I set up a profile and picked out my favorite pictures of myself to upload.
