Amex Platinum Adds NEW $180 Credit

Hey credit warriors, credit shifu here, now American Express has done a lot to hang on to cardholders and lure in new customers, despite the current unique situation across the world. In 2020 they added a monthly $20 cellphone credit and $20 streaming credit to the Amex Platinum, since most people were unable to make use of their travel credit to claw back some of the card’s hefty $550 annual fee.

Those monthly credits are now finished, along with the year 2020. But Amex is adding a new temporary credit to the Amex Platinum for the year 2021 and that would be the PayPal credit. Yep you heard that right, they will reimburse you for purchases made through paypal, which includes a huge number of options because a lot of merchants accept paypal. Now on a side note, this wont include PayPal key, because remember PayPal key will stop accepting American Express as of January 4th. And maybe that was something that Amex and Paypal worked out together, you stop accepting Amex for PayPal key, we don’t like it, people are abusing it and we will provide a PayPal credit for Platinum members that will drive business your way, I don’t know.

Anyway, let’s get into the details of this credit:

Valid Jan 1st 2021 to June 30th 2021
Total: $180
Personal Platinum Only
No registration
Not valid for person to person payments, reloading pre-paid cards or purchase of gift cards

So this means there are now quite a lot of credits that Amex Platinum card members will get in 2021. Let’s take a look at them all:

$200 airline credit
$200 Uber credit ($15 per month, $35 in Dec)
$100 Saks Credit ($50 per 6 months)
$180 PayPal Credit ($30 per month)

TOTAL: $680

Some cardmembers have a $200 Amex Travel credit as well, but the ones I just mentioned are the ones that are guaranteed.
