Our Aboriginal Art, Language and Story Protocol

The Transport and Major Infrastructure Portfolio has developed and adopted the ‘Aboriginal Art, Language and Story Protocol’ which is a guideline for our employees and stakeholders to reference before, during and after engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and stakeholders in respect to Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP). 🖤💛❤️

Australia does not yet have a law that prevents the alteration, distortion or misuse of cultural materials, including but not limited to, song, dance, performances, language, sites, cultural objects, cultural expression or rituals. The Protocol was developed to respect and endorse the ICIP of First Nations peoples, and ensure best practice is maintained across the whole of the Transport Portfolio. 🌀

We are committed to a respectful and communicative approach to engaging with Aboriginal communities in all our projects. We’re proud to be one of the first Government agencies to take action towards cementing a best-practice approach to their processes, respecting the ICIP of the oldest continuous civilisation on earth. 🌏
