How Cruise Models Sensors in Simulation
In addition to creating a virtual world and modeling roads and other road users’ behavior, our simulated environments also model sensors, allowing us to prototype hardware modifications in advance. Cruise AVs have different types of sensors to model. Leveraging video game technology, we can create visual scene data for cameras, but real-time LiDAR and radar are uncharted territories, where the AV industry is at the forefront. Here's how we model sensors in simulation.
