In mid-June 2013, the Cumbres and Toltec was forced to run doubleheaders out of Chama as a plague of tent caterpillars was causing delays on the 4% grade to the summit at Cumbres. These caterpillars feed on Aspen leaves every year in late spring and early summer, but there were an unusually high number of them in 2013 - stripping entire aspen groves of their leaves. In this video, K-27 #463 assists the daily Antonito bound train to Cumbres. #463 has an older style headlight and the tender has been re-lettered for movie work. The extra freight cars on the rear will also be used during the movie shoot, taking place near Antonito later in June and July.
