2 Minute Turf Talk - Magnesium Friend or Foe?

Magnesium can be both friend and foe in a turf management program. Magnesium is the “friendly” photosynthetic element and the solubility of magnesium is very important to plant health and color. It can also play the role of foe by driving up the pH and creating a tight, compacted soil. High calcium limestone can drive off excess magnesium and help to flocculate the soil allowing air and water to move through the soil profile.
