My first video attempt to show how I catch and rig ballyhoo for trolling. I catch the ballyhoo on the key largo patch reefs and then use them for fishing offshore. Enjoy this Catch N Cook!

In this video:
I stop at the Tavernier Creek Marina for some fuel, chum and bait. Then I head out to some good grassy patch reef bottom here in Key Largo. I'm running to a spot I found on my map from FLfishingSpots.com about 1.5 miles southeast from the tavernier creek cut.

I put out a chum bag and it's not long before the ballyhoo show up. On this episode I will you 2 methods on how to catch ballyhoo. These are live ballyhoo and you can keep them live if you want. I plan on rigging the ballyhoo for trolling so I will not be keeping them live in the livewell.

I will use a net to cast net the ballyhoo. This is one method to catch ballyhoo. The other ballyhoo catching trick I will use is a small gold hook. You just tip the hook with chum or in my case some thread herring and the ballyhoo will eat it right up. Drop the hook in your chum slick and it doesn't take long. A ballyhoo will eat your bait and you will have one more great trolling bait!

I will also show you how to rig ballyhoo for trolling. I will use two different methods of rigging the ballyhoo. Both methods use a double hook setup. wire leader and a copper wire. Use about 2 feet of metal wire leader. In this video I use #80lb wire. The copper is used to fasten the ballyhoo to the front of the leader wire. This way it pulls from the front of the ballyhoo in the water to prevent spinning. You never want your ballyhoo to spin in the water!

I also cast out and catch some mutton snapper and grouper. Enough key largo patch reef fishing! Let's go fishing offshore. In less than a couple miles I'm at the reefs edge in 130ft of water. I troll the ballyhoo here. Then I run to some wrecks. Mark fish but no bites. Then I run further offshore and hook up on a nice black fin tuna. Sushi time! I can't wait to cook these up. This will be a great catch n cook. I troll the ballyhoo some more and then troll the patch reef for grouper.

I'm tired of fishing and want to start my catch n cook. In this episode I catch and cook a snapper and the black fin tuna. I catch clean and cook . I keep the fish on ice overnight. descale the snapper and fry it whole. The tuna I turned into some seared sashimi with a coconut and panko breading crust. It was an amazing catch n cook!
