Inside the New York Public Library: The Pforzheimer Collection

"It's really a collection that should be helpful for young people who want to change the world, which is what Shelley wanted to do." - Elizabeth Denlinger.

The New York Public Library’s Pforzheimer Collection of Shelley and His Circle is one of the world’s premier collections for the study of British Romantic literature, focusing on the life and work of Percy Bysshe Shelley and writers and figures closely associated with the poet, including his wife, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of Frankenstein—the most popular and enduring work of the Romantic era. The Pforzheimer’s holdings, chiefly from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, consist of 25,000 books and pamphlets, literary manuscripts, autograph letters, diaries, memorabilia, and other objects.
