Hundreds of tires found illegally dumped in West Seattle greenbelt, cleanup underway

A community cleanup group made a surprising discovery in a West Seattle greenbelt. There, they found hundreds of tires illegally dumped down a steep ravine.

The ravine is next to a popular trailhead off Highland Park Way SW in the West Duwamish Greenbelt. Erik Bell, founder of A Cleaner Alki, estimates more than 300 tires have been dumped on the site about 30 feet down an embankment.

It's not known who put the tires there, but Bell thinks it may be from a tire shop or someone transporting tires for them. It appears whoever dumped the tires is likely backing a truck up to a ledge near the trailhead and rolling them down the hillside. Illegal dumping is a crime in Washington.
