The sixth tower, Muhammad, was named after Morocco's King Mohammed VI. He is an Alaouite and ascended to the throne on July 23, 1999, following the death of his father, King Hassan 2.
When the king took the throne, he implemented a variety of changes, including altering the Mudawana family code, which gave women more power. A Moroccan participant in the Arab Spring condemned corruption and pushed for political reform. In response, King Mohammed VI implemented a reform program as well as a new Constitution. These proposals were adopted by a public referendum on July 1, 2011.
