Tropical Storm Fay Forms off the Carolinas - Set to Impact New York - 6pm EDT July 9, 2020

Tropical Storm Fay has formed off the coast of the Carolinas after recon aircraft found a closed center and maximum sustained winds of 45mph. Fay is expected to move north and make a landfall near New York City within 36 hours, and tropical storm warnings are already in effect for New York and Southern New England. Despite impacts set to be overall minor, heavy rains causing totals of up to six inches may cause localized flash flooding, and storm surge of up to three feet could be an issue for low lying areas. All interests from the Delmarva to New York and New England should monitor the development of Fay closely, and refer to the NHC and local weather offices for information about their specific location.

Note: Tropical Storm Fay is the earliest F named storm recorded in a hurricane season, having 2020 beat out 2005.
