Nikon Z50 Video Autofocus Test Using FTZ Adapter and 3rd Party Lenses

In this video I test out the Nikon Z50 4K mirrorless camera and its video autofocus abilities when paired with the FTZ adapter and some legacy lenses from Nikon, Sigma, Tokina and Tamron. Please note when I say 'legacy' - i mean DX lenses made for Nikon cropped-sensor DSLRs.

The face tracking in video mode works amazingly well - and I hadn't seen anyone truly put it to the test before - so here it is. Hopefully this helps you make up your mind if you have a lot of Nikon F-mount lenses and aren't sure about upgrading.

For each lens I splice between audio captured from the camera body as well as an external recorder so you can see how audible the autofocus motor is when using the FTZ adapter.

Timestamps below to see performance of various lenses:
1:26 Tamron Superzoom 16-400mm
3:44 Nikon 35mm f1.8 Prime Lens
5:58 Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 Constant Aperture Lens
8:16 Tokina 11-16 Wide Angle Lens
9:35 Nikon Z50 Kit Lens - 16-50 z-mount lens and conclusion
