USS Manchester Commissioned as U.S. Navy's Newest Combat Ship.

Hundreds gathered in Portsmouth on Saturday to witness history as the U.S.S. Manchester officially became the U.S. Navy's newest combat ship.

The ship was commissioned at a ceremony Saturday morning and is now ready for duty, along with its 70 crew members.

“There wasn't a more thrilling moment that I've had than watching that crew run aboard today,” U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, said.

Shaheen is the ship's sponsor and one of its many connections to the Granite State.
