P0117 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low | Step-by-Step Diagnosis
P0117 (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low) on a Jeep Grand Cherokee? This video walks through the complete 5-step factory diagnostic procedure with the wiring diagram and connector views - no guesswork, no parts cannon.
When monitored: With the ignition on. Battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts.
Set condition: The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor circuit voltage at the PCM is less than 0.078 of a volt for more than 2.8 seconds. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to clear the MIL.
In this video:
1. ECT Sensor Voltage Below 0.078 Of A Volts
2. ECT Sensor
3. (K2) ECT Signal Circuit Shorted To The (K900) Sensor Ground Circuit
4. (K2) ECT Signal Circuit Shorted Ground
5. PCM
Possible causes covered: (K2) ECT Signal Circuit Shorted To Ground; (K2) ECT Signal Circuit Shorted To The (K900) Sensor Ground Circuit; ECT Sensor; PCM.
Applies to the Jeep Grand Cherokee third generation (WK, 2005-2010) with the 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8 and 5.7L HEMI V8 (and SRT-8 6.1L). Much of the diagnostic logic is shared with the related Jeep Commander (XK) of the same era.
This is general information for educational purposes - always confirm against the service information for your exact vehicle.
