Renovating my Basement Room | Wall Repair, Caulk, Paint
Hey y'all, in this video I'll be renovating my basement room (which I think is technically called a recreation room). When we toured the house for the first time, we were really surprised by how much space this room had and were really excited to move in but in reality, we ended up using a lot of this space for storage while we figured out other things, namely our wedding. We were strapped for cash and couldn't afford to furnish this area just yet. So that's how it ended up just being storage for 2 years.

Things I used:

12" Drywall Taping Knife https://amzn.to/3qUw9f3
6" Drywall Taping Knife https://amzn.to/3sZVEOt
13" Mud pan https://amzn.to/3JHVt0c
Now that the wedding's finally in the rearview, we putting more energy into furnishing this space to be able to relax down here.
- The first part of that is repairing the walls. There were some floating shelves on the far wall and the previous owners mounted those 6' shelves 100% on wall anchors. I show myself repairing those in this video as well as some other spots in the room.
- A lot of the caulking was cracking or nonexistent in the crown molding so we fixed that there.
- For some reason, the HVAC registers had trimming and after taking it off, I found out why: the ducts were sticking out of the ceiling by like 3/4" so I tried fixing that. I can fit newer registers now that they're fixed. Should I have done this fix in another way though?
- The next part was repainting the walls so that they're more cohesive with the rest of the house. I'm using Agreeable Gray by SW which is what we've using in other parts of the house and it's definitely "agreeable". I painted the paneling a semi-gloss white because I wanted a little more sheen to make the room seem a little brighter.
Now that this room is more or less ready, we can begin to furnish! We already have a couch on back-order and we've got a rug and some other smaller available pieces now. Maybe I'll do a room tour later in the year once it's all settled.
Anyways, thanks for watching or reading and I hope this inspires you to tackle your next project. I think some of the things in here aren't super super informative but I just wanted to share the progress we've been making on the house. I think it'll make for good memories in the future, regardless of how many views this gets.
