All Aboard! - The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (1992)

In 1992, The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad partnered with Gleefull Productions and American AltaVista in producing one of the finest documentaries ever done on this amazing tourist railroad. Unfortunately, the VHS program is no longer available and both production companies are no longer in business. In an effort to preserve the historical record that this film captures so diligently, we decided to publish the program for your enjoyment on YouTube.

In this hour long program, you'll ride the entire Great Smoky Mountains Railroad on the former Southern Railway Murphy Branch from Dillsboro to Murphy, NC. You'll be taken back to the "rainbow days" of the tourist line, when the railroad's paint scheme was baby blue, yellow, and stunning bright red. The scenic tour of the line includes rare footage of GSMR freight runs. Since they are no longer serving freight customers in 2016, it's a special treat to see such rail service in action back in the early 90s. Also in this film, you'll watch in awe as GSMR steam locomotive #1702 returns to service for the first time in over thirty years.
