महाभारत में जब भीष्म पितामह सर शय्या पर लेटे होते है तो वे युद्धिष्ठिर को अपने उपदेश में ब्रम्हांड के मूल पदार्थ प्रकृति के बारे में उपदेश देते हुए महादेव शिव और उनकी पत्नी भगवती उमा की आपसी चर्चा को उद्धृत करते हैं , जिसमे महादेव शिव , माता पार्वती को ब्रम्हांड के मूल कारण प्रकृति के अनेकों गुणों के बारे में वर्णन करते हैं |

Mahadev Shiv explained about the basic material cause of the universe , called prakriti , while talking to his wife Bhagvati Uma ( parvati) , when she asked about the fundamental material prakriti , Mahadev answered it and shiva told basic 10 properties of that fundamental material, YET there are main 3 properties exist of such fundamental matter but mahadev completely explained science behind it to parvati.
