Watch Pat Connors and Masood Ahmad of Platte River Power Authority (PRPA) discuss several projects and initiatives that will be critical as they move towards a non-carbon generation portfolio.

This webinar was recorded at the August 24, 2021 meeting of the Northern Chapter of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (NCRES).

Program Description:

We'll be joined by Pat Connors and Masood Ahmad of Platte River Power Authority (PRPA) who will discuss several projects and initiatives that will be critical as they move towards a non-carbon generation portfolio. These include:

- Current and planned renewable energy projects (e.g., the Roundhouse Wind Project)
- The 2020 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) update
- Plans to join the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM)
- Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Strategy Framework

A question-and-answer session will follow.

About the speakers:

Masood Ahmad is Resource Planning manager with PRPA. His responsibilities include planning for the implementation of Platte River’s Resource Diversification Policy. This policy calls for the supply of 100% noncarbon, financially sustainable, environmentally responsible, and reliable electricity by 2030. Masood holds a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has over two decades of global experience in the electric power business. Prior to joining Platte River, he worked with two large Southeastern utilities; Virginia power and the Southern company. His overseas experience includes working in the energy sectors of Saudi Arabia, Brazil, the UK, Turkey, and Pakistan. As a student and practitioner of the energy business, Masood is excited to be part of the current energy transition.

Pat Connors has over 30 years of experience in the utility industry in the areas of power supply, resource planning, and market operations. Pat joined Platte River in 2017 as vice president of power supply and leads Platte River’s power supply planning, power markets, and generation dispatch. He is also responsible for developing Platte River’s resource plans for serving existing member load and future load growth, power purchase agreements, and new resource acquisition, including renewable resources and utility-scale batteries.
