Angela Ashill in Conversation
When we posted up a clip of Angela Ashill's appearance on ITV's The Chase on our Instagram account, the post went viral with now over 3 million views! Everyone was fascinated by Angela's journey from craftsperson to making insulation blankets for satellites.
Angela started her working life as a radiographer in Manchester, before moving to Oxfordshire and having her son. She didn’t go back to radiography as she didn’t want to do the long shifts and weekends, but by then the crafting bug had bitten and in between baby and toddler groups and the odd coffee morning, she began making cards for various occasions.
Angela treated crafting as therapy to clear and focus the mind, but coinciding with the need to turn her house back from a workspace to a home, she saw the advert for a multilayer insulation technician at RAL Space in 2017. Seven years later, she is still there, manufacturing space blankets and managing four technicians.
