Ep1. [Interview] The story of Lee Yong-soo, victim of Japanese wartime sexual enslavement

KOREA NOW presents the heart-breaking yet inspiring story of Lee Yong-soo, the victim of Japanese wartime sexual enslavement.

“I'm Lee Yong-soo. I'm not a dirty comfort woman.”
In 1943, Lee was forcibly taken to front-line military brothels by Japan during World War II.
The Korean woman resented the word “comfort woman” throughout her interview with KOREA NOW on Nov. 26 in Daegu, 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
“Do you know what comfort woman means? It means we went on our own, we went voluntarily to ‘console’ Japan and Japanese Army. That's how Japan defines the word, but truth will be revealed.”
A month ago, Lee celebrated her 90th birthday with five civic groups and other victims of Japanese wartime sexual slavery. She said her age is still young for the initiative.
“I shall live until I turn 200 to get an apology and solve the issue. Money can’t solve this.”
