Planting Coral Forests tells the story of a community initiative that is responsible for protecting Kenya’s coral reefs. The community were concerned about the degradation of their seas and are now protecting the coastline by restoring coral reefs.

The hero, Katana Ngala shows us how the Kuruwitu Conservation and Welfare Association, a local initiative, is restoring the coral reefs in the Kenyan coastline. Coral reefs play a vital role in a healthy sea bed. However, the threats facing coral reefs today around the world include overfishing, development on beaches, pollution and climate change. This is a result of human activities which is making coral reefs much less resilient to climate change.
