Brickwork Repair On A Old Victorian Chimney Breast

In this video I show you how to repair brickwork on an old Victorian fireplace. The fireplace dates back to the early 19 hundreds or probably a bit before that, it could even be Georgian. Queen Victoria's reign was from 1837 until 1901. The bricks I had to replace were all crumbling away and needed to be replaced, they were definitely the original bricks an imperial size, also the hydrated lime mortar was from that era too that's what they used back in the day before the introduction of Portland cement. The hydrated lime would have been mixed with a coarse sand.
When chopping out brickwork make it easy by drilling the bricks first when chopping out the bricks start from the top and work your way down ,also making sure you get all the mortar off the bricks, you don't want anything to snag you up when replacing the bricks.
I got a fantastic match on the bricks they were called Red Victorian, wire cut a perfect match for exciting bricks.
I kept with the original bond which was English bond a course of headers and course of stretcher, the rebuild of the fireplace was all done with a spirit level, ranging in and levelling.
