How to Tell if Someone Knows Swordsmanship? (Reply to Combat Outlook)
This is a discussion about different ways to approach and interpret armed martial arts, and the question of how to judge or estimate someone's skill with a sword. I tend to think we shouldn't take ourselves too serious, considering that we discuss and practice with obsolete weapons that nobody is using in life or death situations anymore.
However, we can still try to give the martial art its due respect in trying to reconstruct it. And if it has a lineage we should be aware that in its current form it might not be as old as we think, and it might have gone through significant changes over time. Here is a more in-depth discussion about that topic:
https://youtu.be/FSOmKAKUrOg
Another question I'm addressing here is how effective are Larp swords for training, and what are the problems or limitations?
