You can scarcely have a conversation about Cold War air combat without including the legendary F-14, the last big cat of the US Navy. A design unrivaled in its air superiority capability for years after its design, the F-14 became the father of all generation four fighter jets, and still has a much loved reputation today. But just why did the Tomcat deserve such love, and what was its doom?
