Russia once again calls for end to NATO expansion to de-escalate Ukraine tensions
러 "유럽 안보위해 나토확장 중단, 우크라 중립국화 이뤄져야"
As tensions continue to simmer over Ukraine,... Russia is again demanding security guarantees from the West.
This includes an end to the eastward expansion of NATO, and the removal of all weapons that Western countries have supplied to Ukraine.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
Russia is once again calling for an end to NATO expansion for the sake of security across Europe.
Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters Wednesday that the only way to de-escalate the Ukraine crisis was for Western states to remove the weapons they've given Kiev,... withdraw military instructors from Ukraine,... and halt NATO-Ukraine drills.
She also stressed Moscow has no aggressive plans in mind.
She added Ukraine needs to remain a neutral state as it was declared in 1990,... when it adopted its Declaration of State Sovereignty.
Meanwhile,... the EU says it's ready to resume formal talks with Russia.
In a letter to Moscow,... Brussels again urged the Kremlin to pull its military back from the border.
The letter,... signed by the EU's top diplomat,... represents the bloc's collective response to a recent memo Russia sent to EU countries.
It specifically underscores the talks through the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,... as all EU countries are members of that organization,... as opposed to NATO,... which only includes 21 EU states.
