How to Clarify Curly Hair - Best Clarifying Shampoo for Curly Hair

When you clarify your hair it removes all the product build up, excess oil, dead skin cells, pollution and minerals from your tap water that have built up on your hair over time. If you don't clarify your hair and it could become dry, frizzy and brittle.

If you live in a hard water area you will also get build up on your hair from the minerals in your tap water (usually magnesium and calcium). Hard water can leave curly hair looking dry and flat, so it's important to regularly use a good clarifying shampoo.

You can also use an apple cider vinegar rinse, baking soda or kaolin clay to clarify curly hair. If you are following the curly girl method you won't be using silicones or waxes on your hair. If you have used products with silicones up until now then a clarifying wash will help to remove any silicone buildup from the hair.

Also heavy oils and butters like shea butter or coconut oil can also build up on the hair over time, and these natural ingredients are often found in curly girl approved products.
