Hey everyone, Paul here, and in today's video I talking about whey protein
farts - yes, a truly wonderful subject - and 5 things you can do to get rid of them. I'll be right back in just a few seconds, stick around, don't go anywhere.

Alright welcome back and thanks for sticking around. So let's get to the topic of today's video; whey protein farts and 5 things you can do to get rid of them.

And let's face it, you absolutely need to do something to get rid of them because whey protein farts are amongst the most toxic farts known to mankind. I mean, when your dog gives you a dirty look and leaves the room in disgust you know there's problem.

So let's fix it. Here are 5 things you can do to get rid of whey protein farts...

Number 1

Put less whey protein in your shakes. It's natural to think that if 1 scoop of whey protein is good, 2 is better, and 3 is even better than that.

That's not what the science says. Although there is some conflicting scientific data about the exact amount of whey protein that you should consume at one time - and I'll discuss this in detail in an upcoming video - the general best practice recommendation is that you consume 1 scoop, or about 20 grams per serving.

Consuming significantly more than this is most certainly contributing to your whey protein farts, and not making a dramatic difference to your training results, so it's safe to cut back your dosage without worrying about compromising your gains.

Number 2

Try taking the digestive enzyme lactase. Whey protein contains lactose and if you're lactose intolerant, eye watering whey protein farts can be the result. Supplementing with lactase - which is cheap and readily available - may solve your problem.

Number 3

Try switching to a whey protein isolate, if you're not already taking one. Whey protein isolates contain significantly lower levels of lactose than concentrates. The downside of course, is that isolates are more pricey than concentrates.

Number 4

If you're mixing your protein with milk, stop. If lactose intolerance is an issue for you, adding milk into the equation only makes things worse.

Number 5

Switch to a different protein source. Let's face it, whey protein is the king of the hill when it comes to protein powders, but there are plenty of other options available to you if neither you or dog can tolerate it.

Egg protein is the most obvious one, but there are also vegetarian options worth checking out.

Now, I know what you're thinking - vegetarian proteins are inferior, or they're missing vital amino acids or they're not as bio available or the amino acid profile isn't as ideal or whatever.

This is only partly true - some vegetarian sources, like rice or pea protein, are great protein sources and are easily absorbed by the body.

In fact, once scientific study, called "The effects of 8 weeks of whey or rice protein supplementation on body composition and exercise performance" found no difference between athletes who consumed whey or rice protein post workout.

When it comes to vegetarian protein sources, my recommendation is to choose a blend of proteins optimized for an ideal amino acid profile. Legion Athletics makes a great vegetarian protein called Thrive.
