Every year Oct 10, is celebrated as World Mental Health day which is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma that surrounds mental illnesses not disorders.
I was requested by my viewers to talk about how important it is to be aware about Mental Health issues and i thought it would be even better to talk to a Psychiatrist about it, especially someone who has been working in this field for a long time.
Dr Manoj Kumar leads a team of psychologists and mental health volunteers at MHAT, mental health action trust which gets in community support for people with mental illnesses especially in rural and poorer sections of the society.
In addition to that he provides counselling and therapy sessions for individuals who wish to seek his treatment through his organization www.mhatkerala.org.
You just need to simply register for an appointment with the Dr. It is easy and the therapy is provided on the basis of complete confidentiality.
Even training and courses are offered to people who wish to be volunteers in this area.
In this interview i talk to him about the social stigma, the issues that surface while addressing mental illnesses by individuals and societies alike, the need to have conversations and spread awareness about this matter and how social media and technology have affected people with mental illnesses.
I hop to add some information about this issue that has long been swept under the carpet.
