Rococo Variations - "Fantasy in Blue" with Alban Gerhardt and Alliage Quintet on Hyperion (Excerpt)
On June 3 2023 Alban Gerhardt's new cd "Fantasy in Blue" with the Alliage Quintet was released on Hyperion (recorded in May 2022) - here is an excerpt from the cd with the 6th variation of Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations arranged by Stefan Malzew for cello, 4 saxophones and piano. Be aware: the arranger took the freedom of interpreting/converting this variation into a blues, apologies to anybody who thinks this is blasphemy of changing the notes of a great composer (although a lot of great composers have done so themselves).
The video footage is from a concert at Heidelberger Frühling in March 2022 and the recording session at Deutschlandradio in Cologne.
