Statistics on people who self-harm have remained at 8-9% of the population since this story was aired. And although it's not a leading cause of death in Australia, two million people between the ages of 16-85 have intentionally self-harmed in their lifetime. It's an epidemic that's misunderstood and often dismissed even by medical professionals.
