Magnús Scheving: Turning Health Into a Game (MOVE Congress 2019)

Magnús Scheving is the creator and star of LazyTown (the character Sportacus), an entertainment brand dedicated to motivating children and their families to make healthy choices. The TV series has been broadcast in more than 170 countries and won numerous awards, including a BAFTA and the renowned US Telly Awards, as well as receiving two Emmy nominations, among other accolades. Since the global success of the LazyTown brand and its subsequent acquisition by Turner Enterprise (where he was named CEO), Magnús has been drafted in by world leaders such as Michelle Obama, David Cameron, Chile’s First Lady Cecilia Morel and former Mexican President Felipe Calderón to collaborate on campaigns tackling child obesity. He has furthermore been enlisted by organisations such as the European Commission and the United Nations to promote health and active lifestyles in general.
