2004 Grand Marquis Intake Manifold replacement
Installation of Dorman brand intake manifold replacement.
This video starts out showing the old original manifold then progresses from there. I recommend leaving off the black plastic heat shield located under the stock manifold. It will be trash when it comes off anyway, after almost crumbling to pieces.
This Dorman replacement manifold comes, ready to bolt on, with all screws and gaskets needed for installation except for the bolts for bolting the manifold to the heads. You will need to reuse your old ones. It's no big deal because the original bolts are not torqued anywhere near high enough to cause them to stretch. The torque process is 18 inch lbs. the first time around, then 18 ft lbs. the second time. You start in the middle of the driver's side manifold for no. 1 then jump directly across the other side for no. 2 then work your way out ending with nos. 10 and 11 at the thermostat housing. The screws are self tapping screws for the Dorman plastic manifold which are used for the throttle body, the fuel injector rail and the coil-over plug (COP) ignition coils.
This Dorman manifold is one designed specifically by Dorman and uses Dorman's replacement gaskets when it comes time to replace the gaskets again. You do not use Fel-Pro's replacement gaskets for the original stock manifold with this one. I also recommend you buy about 5 cans of brake parts cleaner and a bag of rags or wash cloths from Dollar General, which is what I used in this video to plug the intake port holes on the heads. Pay attention and make sure you keep lint out of the port holes and after cleaning, make sure the spark plug port holes are dry by stick paper towels down in them to dry them out.

There is a company out there that makes an aluminum manifold for this engine, and no, I don't mean the Edelbrock performance version for the 4.6L Mustang. That one is for race only.

Yes, this version is for a Mustang, but... it is for the street and is basically a cast and machined version of the stock Ford plastic intake. Since I have never used it, I can't give a review here on it.
If I had the time and money, I would have tried it out. The Dorman was in stock at my local parts store and with an online discount of 20% or 25% from Advance Auto Parts, it can be almost a 1/3rd of the cost of the aluminum version. Plus, I don't have time to wait for it to be shipped to me, I needed a fix now!!!
