The only true negative sleep association I see?
Trying to force sleep.

Rocking, nursing, contact naps, bed sharing — those aren’t the problem.
Sleep becomes a problem when bedtime turns into pressure, power struggles, or anxiety around making sleep happen.

Sleep is a biological function.
It happens when the body has built up enough sleep pressure and feels safe enough to let go.

When sleep is constantly pushed before a child is ready, the association isn’t “sleep = calm”…
it becomes “sleep = tension.”

Support sleep.
Protect connection.
Build enough sleep pressure.

That’s how rest comes — not through force, but through readiness and safety. 💛
