The Story of Old Hannibal: The Good, The Bad & The Elephant - Battle Creek, Michigan
Hear the story of Old Hannibal, the good, the bad and the elephant. In the mid-1850's the Van Amburgh Managerie Show visited Battle Creek, Michigan with the largest elephant to ever tour North America. He was 3000 lbs. heavier than the famous Jumbo of the P.T. Barnum Circus, but few people today have ever heard of him, although he toured for over four decades. Learn the story about his little accident in downtown Battle Creek involving the Mill Race, as well as his other adventures over the years.
The Van Amburgh Managerie toured the U.S. from the Hudson to the Mississippi for over 50 years, and Hannibal was one of their greatest featured animals. This is the good and the bad of Old Hannibal, as well as his forgotten legacy as the biggest Asiatic elephant to ever be exhibited in North America.
