Japanese Zeroes Overhead: The Pearl Harbor Survivor Who Became a WWII Bomber Pilot

Lt. Colonel William Bonelli was at Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941, when Japanese Zeroes roared across the sky. He survived the attack — and it changed his life forever.

After Pearl, Bonelli was sent to the Fiji Islands, working as an airplane mechanic on the B-17 Flying Fortress. A chance encounter opened the door for him to become a pilot — flying 30 combat missions over Italy during WWII.

For his bravery and service, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, later continuing his military career flying tactical bombers through the 1950s.

🎖️ A story of survival, courage, and destiny.
