every evening, an annoying group of boys from your class rides their bikes back and forth in front of your house. they teasingly call out your name and throw pebbles at your window to get your attention. you usually just ignore them but midterms are coming up and your patience is running thin.

you shout at them to go away but tonight, they've come with a song they want to sing to you to let you know how they feel. with a portable amp and mic, they sing their little hearts out.

your lips battle between a frown and a smile.

"it's kind of stupid," you think to yourself.

"but also kind of nice."

i've always wanted to make another serenading edit (re: 'make it right' edit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhI5u86T__E&t=140s&ab_channel=joonpiter) and when i heard this song on proof, i INSTANTLY knew i had to make it (albeit vvv late, mb :p). the lyrics are jus soso cute and innocent and i'm sure it might've reminded some of you of your own young loves ahaha

that said, the concept of this edit was actually inspired by an experience i witnessed as a kid when i visited the philippines for the first time in 2003. idk what it is but filipinos srsly go all out for love lmfao and the act of courting someone you like is an important part of our culture (at least, it was a lot more back then). when we officially moved there a few years later, serenading love songs to someone you liked and sending love letters were smth i'd always see during school events but also just dating proposals amongst my classmates in general.

i don't see that a lot anymore. most probably bc i'm getting old and it's maybe considered corny/old-fashioned now LMAO but also bc i think when you're around my age trying to find someone, love feels more like a product of convenience, an end goal, a check off your life to-do list. there also just isn't a lot of time for slow and sweet confessions. everything happens so quick.

but when you're young and in love, it feels like you have all the time in the world to get to know someone. no other thoughts guiding you except your fondness or admiration for them. no expectations that things will even work out but it's ok bc you're young and even an unrequited love can feel enough.

ik it's a much diff time now but to my younger subscribers out there, i hope you can experience that kind of young love too. smth that you can cherish now but appreciate even more when you get older. i hope you can hold someone's hand just bc it feels nice. or rmr getting excited when you walk by your crush's classroom. or what it's like to write them a secret love letter even though you'll probably never even give it to them ahaha.

but ik we experience and understand love in different ways too. so, i just hope the love you give and receive at that time in your life (even one-sided or platonic) doesn't force you to grow up so fast and is smth you don't mind remembering years later.
