📜✨Emperor Babur’s Victory, Humayun’s Salute, and the Gift of the Koh-i-Noor! ✨📜
In a rare illustration from the Akbar-nama (c. 1596–1604), we see Emperor Zahir-ud-din Babur seated on his newly-won throne in Delhi after his decisive victory over Sultan Ibrahim Lodi in 1526. Dressed in a soft yellow robe, Babur looks directly at his son Humayun, who salutes him with respect and loyalty.
Humayun had just secured the allegiance and territory of a Hindu king in the south, strengthening Babur’s rule. Among the tributes presented on this occasion was the legendary Koh-i-Noor diamond, weighing 793 carats at the time—now recut and set in Queen Elizabeth II’s crown. 👑💎
This moment marks not just the founding of the Mughal Empire, but also the grandeur and legacy that followed.
